Quick answers to the most common EPF, ESI & LWF queries
Login to the EPFO Unified Member Portal (unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in) using your UAN and password. Ensure your KYC (Aadhaar, PAN, Bank Account) is verified. Go to Online Services → Claim (Form 31, 19, 10C & 10D). Select the appropriate claim type and submit. The amount is credited within 7–20 working days.
UAN (Universal Account Number) is a 12-digit number assigned to each EPF member. To activate, visit the EPFO member portal and click "Activate UAN". Enter your UAN, Aadhaar, date of birth, mobile number and the OTP received. Once activated, you can manage all your EPF services online.
Login to the EPFO member portal. Go to Online Services → Transfer Request (Form 13). Provide your previous member ID and current employer details. Your previous employer or current employer will approve the transfer request. The PF balance transfers within 20–30 working days.
First check the rejection reason in your EPFO member portal under Claim Status. Common reasons include KYC mismatch, incorrect bank details, or incomplete service history. Rectify the issue and resubmit. If the problem persists, file a grievance at epfigms.gov.in or contact us through the form above.
Visit the ESIC portal (esic.gov.in) and login using your IP Number or Aadhaar. Go to the Claim section to check status. Alternatively, visit your nearest ESIC branch. For medical reimbursement claims, status is usually updated within 30–60 days.
LWF is a state-specific scheme to provide welfare facilities to employees. Applicability varies by state — most states require establishments with 10 or more employees to contribute. Both employer and employee contribute. Rates and frequencies differ by state. Non-compliance can attract penalties.
On the EPFO member portal login page, click "Forgot Password". Enter your UAN and registered mobile number. An OTP will be sent. Enter the OTP and set a new password. If your mobile number is not registered or is wrong, contact your employer to update it in the EPFO system.
